OBSTETRICS

Must Read

You have either just had your first OB aptpointment or have one scheduled. You are getting millions of pieces of information thrown at you (maybe an exaggeration but it feels like it). I want you to take a deep breath and realize that you have plenty of time to take it all in. For now, I want you to concentrate on a few things that actually need to get done.

Decide now:

1. Do I want to have early genetic testing to look for risk of chromosome abnormalities? This needs to be done before 13w5d.

Decide sometime:

1. Do I want genetic testing to look for genetic traits I might carry?

2. Do I want to take prenatal classes?

3. Do I want my baby to get the Hepatitis B vaccine?

4. Do I want my infant boy to get a circumcision?

Do before I give birth:

1. Pick a pediatrician.

2. Get a car seat

This an abbreviated minimalist list of what actually needs to get done from our point of view. Obviously, there can be more added to this list but I wanted to give you my perspective on the nitty-gritty. Other questions will come up as we proceed and we will guide you through these as they come.
